SEL universal screener

Hi all,

At Graded – The American School of São Paulo, we are currently exploring universal social-emotional and wellbeing screeners for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.

I would greatly appreciate hearing what tools or approaches your school uses in this area.

Crisis Prevention Training

Hi,

Has anyone provided any crisis prevention training at their school? If so, what do you use? In the USA, we used Crisis Prevention Institute for de-escalation strategies and physical holds. I am curious what other international schools use.

We are looking into training a trainer in CPI. Interestingly, they were reluctant to have our person do the training in the US over the summer as they have apparently developed an international version for certification and training outside of the US. Unfortunately, the training here in Dubai that was promised in April has still not happened. We have explored other options but haven't found anything we like quite as much as CPI.

What program/curriculum does your school use to address SEL at the tier 1 level? Does your school have a universal screener? If so, which one do you use?

We have a screener that we use for our ECE and K-2 students that teachers fill out. For grades 3-5, they are piloting a microsoft form that is similar to what we use in our grades 6-12. In grades 6-12, students complete it in advisory every two weeks. We use the Second Step curriculum for ECE through Lower School as our social emotional curriculum. For grades 6-12, students guide the topics to focus on in their advisory periods and the counselors help with planning the lessons with the advisory teachers.
