Finding Wisdom in the Tensions:
A both/and approach to strengthening culture, practice, and systems in inclusive international schools
Friday, 5th March - Saturday, 6th March 2027
Hosted at The International School of Kuala Lumpur

What are some ways schools move from a commitment to inclusion toward systems that make it sustainable in practice?
This two-day institute will bring international school leaders and educators together to recognize, embrace and plan for some of the persistent tensions involved in leading inclusive schools. Drawing on a new NFI and ISLES publication, participants will use case studies, polarity mapping, and practical leadership tools to examine their own context and identify meaningful next steps.
Participants will:
-
explore what it takes for inclusion to become a whole-school system rather than a set of services;
-
learn to recognize and navigate the some tensions involved in leading inclusive schools;
-
apply practical tools for examining culture, structures, collaboration, and decision-making; and
-
identify meaningful next steps for advancing inclusion in their own school
-
leave feeling efficacious and more confident in embracing tensions that we can learn from.
Who should attend: We strongly recommend school teams with representation from a variety of roles to attend together.
-
heads and deputy heads of school
-
principals and division leaders
-
directors and coordinators of student support, inclusion, EAL, learning support, counseling, and wellbeing
-
teaching and learning leaders
-
teacher leaders responsible for schoolwide change
