Are you ready to dive into the data supporting impactful inclusion?

Join ISLES for a unique two-day collaborative retreat designed for K-12 leaders committed to impactful and measurable inclusive practices in international schools. This retreat is specifically designed for school-wide leaders of student support and their data and technology specialists to work together towards a shared goal: understanding and evaluating the real difference your inclusive initiatives are making, from individual student growth to systemic change.

As schools embrace more inclusive practices, the need for robust data to measure impact and guide development has never been greater. This retreat offers an exclusive opportunity to move beyond simply wanting to be inclusive and engage in collaborative, hands-on problem-solving to define and measure the specific outcomes you hope to achieve.

Day 1: Understanding the Impact of Change at a Systems Level

Day 1 is exclusively for school-wide leaders of student support. In this focused and interactive session, you'll collaboratively map your desired impact at every level – from informing decisions about individual student outcomes to driving broader system-wide improvements. This isn't a typical conference; expect active participation, shared learning, and the opportunity to unpack challenges and solutions with peers from other international schools. You'll share your school's experiences and gain valuable insights from diverse contexts.

Day 2: The Power of Collaboration

On the second day, we welcome Data and Technology Specialists to join the conversation. Together, you'll contextualize the outcomes identified on Day 1 to your unique school environment and develop concrete, actionable plans for establishing data collection and management structures that will allow you to truly measure the impact of your inclusive practices. This day will be a working session focused on practical application and building a shared understanding between support and data teams.

This innovative student support and data collaboration structure will allow you to:

  • Tap into innovative expertise in international schools and share what you're doing to leverage data for student success.

  • Collaborate directly with your school's student support leadership to translate desired student and system-level outcomes into actionable data points.

  • Strategize the most effective ways to collect, manage, and visualize this critical information.

  • Learn from each other in the data/tech space, exchanging insights and strategies specific to the international school context.

  • Establish collaborative networks to support the work going forward, connecting with peers facing similar challenges and opportunities.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to gain clarity, build a powerful action plan, and network with fellow leaders committed to data-driven inclusion. This retreat is designed for active engagement, collaborative problem-solving, and sharing best practices to move beyond theory and into impactful, measurable action.

This retreat is aligned with the discussions and insights you'll find at the Data in Schools Conference at ISKL directly following the ISLES event, offering a focused follow-up and action-planning opportunity for interested participants.

FAQs

Who is this event for?

This collaborative event is for school-wide leaders of student support and data technology specialists who work together at the same school. Your ticket price is for the two people in these positions to attend together.

What makes this event different?

So much!

First of all, we know that many international schools are adopting more inclusive practices, yet this is the only event we know of that’s focused on evaluating the systems-level impact of those changes.

Also, we know that professional learning for inclusive leadership and professional learning for data and technology specialists rarely overlaps. This event is designed to leverage our respective expertise to develop concrete, actionable plans for establishing data collection and management structures that will allow you to truly measure the impact of your inclusive practices. We’ve intentionally scheduled our event to take place just before the Data in Schools Conference at ISKL to connect student support leaders with professionals who have a passion for working with data.

We’ve all participated in professional learning that is engaging but minimally impactful. This isn't a typical conference; expect active participation, shared learning, and the opportunity to unpack challenges and solutions with peers from other international schools. You'll share your school's experiences and gain valuable insights from diverse contexts.

What should I do if only one of us (either data specialist or school-wide leader of student support) cannot attend?

The event has been planned for collaboration and partnership between data specialists and leaders of student support. If for some reason one of the pair cannot attend, please do reach out to us as we have limited spaces for individuals in those roles. You’ll still be able to learn from each other, share practice, and engage in action planning. But you should also schedule some time together both before and after the event to share ideas and insights, and to engage in your own school action planning process.

What if my school doesn’t have a dedicated leader of student support or dedicated data specialist?

Many international schools don’t (yet) have a dedicated leader of student support, and almost all of them have a person on staff who is responsible for student support leadership as part of their job scope. This might be a vice principal, director of teaching and learning, or a person in another role. We invite that person to attend!

Likewise, the role of processing and analyzing data may be part of a vice principal or head of department’s role, instead of having a dedicated data specialist. If your role includes data analysis at a school-wide level, you’re the right person for this retreat!

We have more than one person in each role (e.g., Primary and Secondary Learning Support Coordinators, Technology Director and data analyst, etc). What should we do?

Your ticket is for two professionals, one in student support and one in data and technology, from your school. If you have more than a pair of professionals in those roles who want to attend, you can buy a ticket for an additional person or buy another pair. If you have a group of 3 or 4 coming from the same school, please reach out to us so we can make sure we take your needs into account when planning the event.

How big will this event be?

Given the collaborative, sharing nature of the event, it will be intentionally small, with a maximum of 12 schools attending.

Where will the event take place?

The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) has graciously agreed to host our event directly before the Data in Schools Conference. We are grateful for their leadership in inclusive practices, data infrastructures, and their support of this event.

Where should I stay?

The Double Tree by Hilton at the Intermark Mall is close to the school and is frequently used by school visitors.
